Hydraulic cylinder force and speed calculator
Enter the cylinder's bore and rod diameter, the pressure and the pump flow rate; we calculate the push and pull forces and the extend and retract speeds, and show honed cylinder tubes with that inner diameter.
How is it calculated?
- Piston area A = π × D² ÷ 4; annular area (pull side) = π × (D² − d²) ÷ 4
- Force F (N) = p (bar) × 0.1 × A (mm²); 1 t ≈ 9,807 N
- Speed v (mm/s) = Q (l/min) × 1,000,000 ÷ 60 ÷ A (mm²)
- Friction and pressure losses are not included; the actual force can be 5–10% lower.
The results are for preliminary selection; check the values in the manufacturer's catalogue and your system's conditions separately.
